Visited LEA March exhibition, Winter Outlined by Fuschia Ngihtfire. The main character of this art is not the installation but the avatar which is available free at the entrance. At the first glance it seems a transparent avatar with outline only…

Not only the background seen through, but also colors from somewhere will be read into the avatar. Here is a part of explanation by the artist.
“I made some avatars that were completely made up of the invisi prims, with an outer layer that had 1% transparency on it, allowing the invisi prims to block them out from inside, creating the illusion of an outline around the avatar. Whichever angle the avatar was viewed from it always appeared as an outline. I then found that when I put this avatar in front of alpha textures the invisi prims would work to block out the texture behind it, gibing the avatar a more ‘solid’ appearance. I am using the SIM at LEA6 to develop an environment to house these avatars, using lots of alpha textures and transparencies.”

This phenomenon is the same as high heal not made with sculp standing on a floor with alpha layer where the alpha part of shoes will take color of the floor. This art is using it positively. It is interesting to see the avatar colors are changing while walking around. It is hard to expect which colors would be read. The color is also changed by moving camera and it is fun to find good angles and colors.

The diversified installation itself is also interesting as an art to walk through in it. The texture of the avatar can be used separately, so it is possible to wear it on my own shape. But the outline was set and you can change the height only though.

The avatar provides the effect in other area. In the area with no alpha channel the avatar stays as a transparent one, but SL sky and water have the same effect. The top right is a flower field at Suzu’s place, the below two are at my gallery. The color will be changed by a slight movement of camera.
