Came back to the UWA art presentation. It is exciting to see prize winners announced every month. This one floating in the air has many thorns wriggling creepily. Although it looks bizarre, I cannot take my eyes off.

Second look confirmed that there are eight elements that look like the left, and each one keep turning in different direction accordingly. The base element consists of five cubes with different color that connected each other on each apex. So I understood the meaning of the title, ‘5X8 Compound Cube’. In order to see the components, eliminated them one by one using derender command.
There is an occasion when all elements are aligned matching apexes with same colors. There are two elements on the left, ant total of eight on the right. When taking rerender command, it seems that the system starts from the reset position. Once it started rotation, it is hard to see the original starting combination.
The winner of June session, ‘Dangling Narrow Chain Demonstrator’. The expression of gravity is excellent. The balls hanging from the rotating arm make very natural and random-like movement.
Since it is so natural, I became a naughty rascal as usual and was tempted to sit on it. But as soon as I caught the bottom ball, something snapped and I was thrown away. The ball chain became short and did not tangle anymore making only simple movement. I scrambled to IM to the owner in panic to make an apology. He kindly said, “No problem. It uses gravity. It will break and then we fix later.” There is no connecting thread seen, but it is amazing that the system makes it snap and let me brush aside.
